“With its unusually expansive frontline of trumpet, clarinet, trombone and tenor saxophone, the ensemble was well prepared to perform a variety of material. Trumpeter Lewis Buckley, trombonist Gregory Wirt and clarinetist Andrew Sherwood proved particularly adept at creating the colorful, polyphonic weaves that help distinguish Dixieland jazz. Tenor saxophonist Greg Case, on the other hand, was heard to best advantage on the ballads and blues, which included a mournful reprise of "St. James Infirmary." Like their band mates, the members of the rhythm section -- pianist Ian Frenkel, bassist Mark McCormick and drummer Thomas Briggs -- had ample space to shine as soloists, though it was the all-aboard ensemble passages that generated the most color and vitality.”
